How a Project Gets Started:
-We have assessment tools in place to help serve the individual/family and the situation best. Sometimes the answer is a car and sometimes these tools reveal their willingness to address larger areas of concern in life that may have contributed to their present situation. Many needs that come to us come from someone we love and trust or from an organization we work along side; either way, there are several things to consider. Is there an emergency at hand? We assess the need and send over a vehicle inquiry and/or detailed vehicle inquiry form to evaluate the situation or if they already have a vehicle, but needs repaired -a vehicle repair from. We speak to the person/organization who referred them and also reach out to the references listed on the forms they filled out. When we step into a situation, we want to gather enough information to help serve them best.
Education:
-There are immediate costs of owing a vehicle: tax, title, & registration, fuel, oil changes/maintenance and insurance. Not only do we require insurance on the vehicle, but it is a law in the state of TX. We also want to know a person’s vehicle history. Who do they use for repairs? Do they have a driver’s license? Do they have employment to cover these immediate car costs, maintain insurance and future repairs? A lot goes into vehicle ownership and we try to provide that knowledge and if owning a vehicle is even the next right step.
-Although we rescue and repair vehicles for good, we are not a dealership. We do not have lots of vehicles to choose from, but the work that goes into them are of the highest quality. There is a high demand and a waitlist. Our vehicles are not just any vehicles. We see them as very special vehicles and here’s why: We believe that it is by God’s grace that someone sold/ donated it to us, that He gave us and our supporters jobs and the ability to earn the money to buy the parts needed for it. Through 17 years of training and experience, working on thousands of cars, He gave us the passion, ability, skills and knowledge to repair it.
Acquiring Vehicles:
-We purchase them by dealerships, word of mouth, the internet or donations. We take into careful consideration each vehicle we purchase and acquire, where there is a vetting process done on each one.
The Work Begins:
-Every vehicle we get requires extensive work. We go from bumper to bumper repairing and replacing what the vehicle needs and then some. That means we spend at least 75-120 man hours on each project. The vehicle may be older with higher miles, but thousands of dollars worth of work have been done on it. We are not a middleman. Our goal is to take away a burden and leave them with a mechanically sound vehicle safe for the road for years to come.
Payment:
-Every situation is different. Sometimes someone can pay for the vehicle and sometimes they cannot, in which case we ask their community that surrounds them if they can help step into the situation and raise the money for the vehicle. We then sell for an affordable, highly reduced, fair price. We want to work within their budget, but also understand that this process is not free. The vehicle, price of parts and labor poured into it are all very costly, but we are able to offer this generous opportunity because of the generosity that only Christ perfected.
It can seem that it’s about cars or car repairs. It is much more than that. It is how we view obedience; using our time, talents and resources for God’s kingdom.
